Experts Agree: We Are At Earth’s End––Doomsday Clock

As we have added looming financial collapse to our list of reasons for pessimism about the future of life on Planet Earth, we continue discussion of other factors.  One of which is the dreaded ‘Doomsday Clock’ theory.

In ‘Countdown to the Man-Made Apocalypse,” Lawrence Krauss, Co-Chair of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, says the Clock was: “Created in 1947, [to] graphically reflects how close humanity might be to human-induced apocalypse, in terms of the ‘number of minutes to midnight’—at which time, presumably, time itself will no longer matter.”

Further, he explains:  “In total, the clock has been adjusted 20 times, moving as close to two minutes to midnight in 1953, after the United States and Soviet Union each first tested thermonuclear devices, and as far as 17 minutes to midnight in 1991, after the United States and Soviet Union signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. Currently, it is set at five minutes to midnight.”

A major factor in any discussion of pending nuclear war is that ‘no one seems to be in charge.’  Right now, only continual diplomatic efforts––often reinforced with financial sanctions and threats of force––seem to prevent a continuing spread of nuclear armament.

But Iran is not cooperating.  And India and Pakistan are also testing their nuclear powers.  Andrew Stuart of explains:  “The world stands at the brink of a second nuclear age. The United States and Russia remain ready to stage a nuclear attack within minutes, North Korea conducts a nuclear test, and many in the international community worry that Iran plans to acquire the Bomb.”

Robert Socolow, Princeton University Professor tells Stuart:  “The tests are a symptom of the failure of the international community to fully commit itself to control the spread of nuclear weapons – and to work toward substantial reductions in the numbers of these weapons.”

In the Christian Science Monitor Mark Clayton warns scientists have moved the ‘Doomsday Clock‘ a minute closer to midnight, as “nations will not address nuclear proliferation, climate change and other global threats.”

Also stressing the urgent need to find sustainable sources of energy, other scientists have agreed to move the minute closer to midnight.  These scientists claim that nations are “failing to change [just doing] business as usual.”

Socolow adds: “The challenges to rid the world of nuclear weapons, harness nuclear power, and meet the nearly inexorable climate disruptions from global warming are complex and interconnected. In the face of such complex problems, it is difficult to see where the capacity lies to address these challenges.”

The lack of visible ‘one man’ leadership is one of the factors that will lead the world to seek the anti-Christ.  As antichrist fictional books pre 1990 explains, this Christ impersonator will use force and intimidation to gain followers.  But by the end of World War III, mankind will know that only the True Christ remains!
