Vatican-troubles-New-PopeJust when everyone thought the new Pope would quiet things down at the Vatican, its old red herring the Vatican Bank brought him back down to scandal earth, and then the United Nations dumped the child raping cases on his head too!

In ‘A Money-Smuggling Scandal Threatens to Sink the Vatican Bank,’ Carol
Matlack jokes:  “It sounds like a thriller plot: A Vatican cleric, a spy, and a financier are accused of conspiring to smuggle €20 million ($26 million) out of Switzerland aboard a private jet. In fact, it’s the latest scandal to hit the Vatican bank, prompting Pope Francis to make sweeping management changes.”

Imagine trying to smuggle $ 26 million dollars in a private jet. Sounds like a detective thriller.  A whole host of Vatican officials have either resigned, been arrested or both.  As for the spy: no none knows. But Jakarta Globe identified ‘him’ as “an Italian secret service agent” who was also arrested.

Other characters in this plot include:  “Director Paolo Cipriani and deputy-director Massimo Tulli stepped down three days after the Vatican was rocked by the arrest of Monsignor Nunzio Scarano, who is accused of plotting with two other people to smuggle 20 million euros into Italy from Switzerland.?”

For years, Scarano was a senior accountant for the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See charity.  His  lawyer says the Monsignor used the $ 730,000 in cash he took out of his account and distributed among friends who gave in checks which he re-deposited so he could pay off a mortgage for a charity.

Of course, Pope Francis has named new officials, overseers, accountants, etc. to supervise the bank.  But the question remains, how long can it go on?  But wait!  On top of all of this the United Nations has issued him an official notice:

Respond and give details about child sex abuse cases involving priest!  Nick Squires of The Telegraph writes:  “The United Nations’ Committee on the Rights of the Child demanded that the Vatican divulge documents about its treatment of abuse victims around the world and its leniency towards predatory priests.”

The document demands the Vatican explain what it has done to make sure “no priest accused of sexual abuse is vaticanSNAPauthorized to come into contact with children.” The U.N. also wants the Pope to cite church leaders asked “not to report such offenses, and at which level of the clergy.”

The Vatican enacted new laws against the abuse, kidnapping, pornography and prostitution of children, but SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priest) insists these are merely for show:  “The Church hierarchy doesn’t need new rules on abuse. It needs to follow long-established secular laws. Church officials, starting with Pope Francis, need to actually punish those who conceal and enable abuse, which they have ample power to do but inadequate courage to do.”

If their training included more Bible historical books, priest would know the punishment God has in store for child abusers: “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea (Mark 9: 42).”
