Sleeping Soldiers During the Increasing Heat of Battle?

sleeping-Christians        While politicians and their military counterparts concentrate on identifying and defeating human enemies, through prayer and intercession Christians at home should also identify and attack the war’s corresponding spiritual enemies. But alas, this is not being done in most homes and churches in this country today.

Instead of shouting out that once popular hymn ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ today’s anthem would have to be ‘Sleep on now confessing Christians.’ Believers walk as if in a daze watching the slaughter of fellow believers in the Middle East and  Africa.  Churches in the U.S. and Europe bespeak of the nearly dead churches warned about in Christian non-fiction prophecy books:

“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked (Revelation 3: 16-17).”

In ‘8 Clear Signs of a Compromising Church,’ Bishop Joseph G. Mattera compares today’s modern church in the United States with the Confessing Church, which was absolutely the only denomination to resist Nazi Germany during World War II.  He compares that Church with the pathetically weak record of most churches in America today: 1) “In the confessing church, Christ is over culture; 2) The confessing church holds fast to the Word of God in spite of opposition.

“3) The confessing church puts the kingdom of God above their culture and ethnicity; 4) The US-troopsconfessing church alters their methods of preaching (but not the
message); 5) The confessing church is a remnant in the minority of church and state (while the compromising church wants to be in the mainstream of both church and state); 6) The confessing church is penalized by the state government. The compromising church is applauded by the state government.

“7) The confessing church prophetically speaks truth to power. The compromising church conforms to those in power; and 8) The confessing church desires the praise of God. The compromising church desires the praise of men.”
In another article, the Bishop points out that while many pastors preach Jesus as   Savior, few preach Him as LORD, with all the rights of LORD and Master!

Sleeping believers are not crying out before The LORD in repentance for ourselves and the nation as Daniel did:  “And I set my face unto The Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: And I prayed unto The LORD My God, and made my confession, and said,

“O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him, and to them that keep His commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Thy precepts and from Thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto Thy servants the prophets, which spake in Thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land (9: 3 – 6).”

If there was ever a time for America to repent in this manner, the time is now, for it is almost too late: world war, extreme drought, famine, massive earthquakes and more killer diseases are the waiting alternatives without such thorough and heart-felt repentance among those of genuine Christian faith!
